What was Honda thinking?
So Gene Honda thinks it's OK to desert this outfit on opening day so he can be the stadium announcer at the final four? The White Sox, the organization that nourished his career, were shoved aside, so Mr. Honda could make a dash to a bigger stage. It didn't matter one lick to Honda that loyal Sox fans were left listening to substandard stadium announcing on opening day. I say that if us fans are second(or third?) on Honda's list, perhaps it's time for the Chairman to find a more loyal stadium announcer. After all, you don't see Roger Bossard rushing down to Augusta National to give advice on growing and maintaining the perfect golf course right before the Masters. I'm certain the Augusta greenskeepers would love to hear from the legendary lawnsman, but Bossard was right where he belonged. At US Cellular, making sure loyal White Sox fans got the beautiful, pristine opening day lawn they deserve.
Honda had best reassess his loyalties and realize that life is pretty darn good for him at 35th and Veeck. There are plenty of announcers who would love his gig and be more than happy to show up on opening day. In an organization that values loyalty above all, Gene Honda needs to start showing where his loyalties lie.
